Troy Deeney’s Premier League Team of the Week Unveiled

Every week this season, BBC Sport pundit Troy Deeney has been picking out the players who stood above the rest in the Premier League. And once again, he’s delivered a line-up that’s got fans talking, with some surprise inclusions and a few inevitable names based on standout performances.

Let’s start at the back. Burnley’s Martin Dubravka has been singled out for praise, with Deeney saying the goalkeeper is the reason Burnley could avoid relegation. Against Nottingham Forest, Dubravka produced four or five top-class saves that earned his side a vital point. Without him, Burnley would have been in trouble.

On the left side of defense, Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell impressed not only with a superbly taken goal against West Ham but also with his relentless energy. Deeney described him as one of the best one-on-one defenders in the league. Marcos Senesi of Bournemouth also earned his place. Despite the club losing high-profile defenders in the summer transfer window, Senesi has stepped up and been a rock at the back. Alongside him is Newcastle’s Sven Botman, who showed great resilience by playing a full 90 minutes and helping secure a clean sheet after battling injury concerns. Rounding out the defense is Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams, who combined defensive work with attacking flair, even scoring in his side’s draw.

Moving into midfield, Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch continues to shine. He scored against Everton in the Merseyside derby, and Deeney went as far as to say he could be the best holding midfielder in the league right now. Fulham’s Alex Iwobi also earned recognition for his goal and clever assist against Brentford, while Leeds’ Anton Stach was rewarded for his thunderous strike against Wolves and his all-round physical presence. And then there’s Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes. He notched his 100th goal for the club in a must-win game, with Deeney calling him “Captain Fantastic” and insisting United would be lost without him.

Up front, Sunderland’s Wilson Isidor has taken his chance in the top flight, scoring against Aston Villa and working tirelessly for his team. Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike also got the nod. Despite big competition for places, he’s proving his worth week after week, offering a different kind of attacking option and chipping in with key goals during Liverpool’s perfect five-game start.

And finally, the manager of the week went to Daniel Farke of Leeds. Deeney admitted he thought Farke might be in danger earlier in the season, but Leeds’ comeback win against Wolves showed just how much fight he has instilled in his side.

So, there it is: Deeney’s latest team of the week, a blend of rising stars, experienced leaders, and players delivering when it matters most. Whether fans agree or not, one thing’s certain—it sparks debate every single time.
