Amazon has officially announced another round of layoffs, marking a significant restructuring move aimed at strengthening the company’s long-term agility and focus. In an internal message shared by Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, employees were informed that approximately 14,000 corporate roles will be reduced as part of ongoing organizational changes.

According to Galetti, this decision is part of a broader effort to “strengthen Amazon’s culture” and operate with the speed and ownership of what CEO Andy Jassy once called “the world’s largest startup.” Over the past year, Amazon teams have worked to simplify internal structures by cutting unnecessary layers of management, reducing bureaucracy, and allowing employees to take more direct ownership of their work. These new reductions are seen as a continuation of that plan.

The company emphasized that while some areas will experience job cuts, other divisions—particularly those tied to strategic growth—will continue hiring. Amazon wants to reallocate its resources toward what it calls its “biggest bets,” focusing on the needs of customers today and the opportunities of tomorrow.

For employees affected by these cuts, Amazon is offering multiple forms of support. Impacted staff will receive around 90 days to search for a new role internally , depending on local labor laws. Internal candidates will be prioritized for open positions, giving them the best chance to stay within the organization. For those unable or unwilling to find a new position, Amazon has promised severance pay, health insurance coverage, outplacement services, and additional transition assistance.

Galetti also addressed the question many are asking: why make cuts when the company is performing well? Her answer focused on the rapid pace of technological change, particularly the transformative impact of artificial intelligence. She described this era of AI as “the most transformative technology since the Internet,” explaining that businesses must now adapt faster than ever to remain competitive. To do that, Amazon believes it must become leaner, flatter, and more connected—able to move swiftly in a world where innovation cycles are shortening dramatically.

Looking ahead to 2026 , Amazon plans to keep investing in strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, devices, cloud computing, and logistics technology. The company aims to continue hiring selectively in these high-growth fields while maintaining a disciplined focus on efficiency and innovation.

Despite the difficult nature of these layoffs, Galetti expressed deep appreciation for Amazon employees’ continued commitment, saying she remains inspired by their resilience and creativity. She concluded her note by reaffirming that Amazon’s mission remains unchanged: to invent boldly, move quickly, and deliver the best possible experiences for customers worldwide.
