Brother Raises £1,500 for Alzheimer’s in Honor of Bridlington Sister

A heartwarming story has emerged from Bridlington this week, where a local man has gone above and beyond to support Alzheimer’s research. Luke Glover, motivated by personal loss and the challenges his family faces, has successfully raised over £1,500 for Alzheimer’s Research UK after completing the Yorkshire Marathon. His campaign was inspired by his sister, who is living with Familial Alzheimer’s Disease (FAD), a rare genetic form of dementia that also claimed the life of their father.

Luke’s journey began many years ago, when, at just 11 years old, he lost his father to this uncommon form of dementia. Unlike typical Alzheimer’s, Familial Alzheimer’s Disease is inherited and affects less than 1% of all dementia cases. Genetic testing later revealed that Luke was fortunate not to carry the gene, but tragically, his sister did. Today, she receives dedicated care at Beechwood Care Centre in Bridlington, a facility renowned for supporting individuals with advanced dementia and complex needs.
