The Block 2025: Robby and Mat’s Emotional Auction Heartbreak
It was a bittersweet night on The Block 2025 as fan favourites Robby and Mat faced an outcome they never saw coming. After weeks of sleepless nights, endless renovations, and high hopes, the duo walked away with a modest prize of just $109,000. Their dream home was snapped up by familiar buyer Danny Wallis for $3,099,000 — but the final number left the pair visibly deflated.
Moments after the auction, both Robby and Mat spoke candidly about how they were feeling. Mat, trying to stay composed, said quietly, “It’s not a great outcome, but it is what it is.” Robby followed, clearly emotional, admitting, “It sucks, you know. We put in a lot of hard work, but it’s a beautiful house, and I’m sure Danny and his guests will enjoy it.”
Their disappointment was hard to hide. Returning to the auction room, Robby wiped away tears as their co-stars clapped in support. Mat, however, stopped the applause, saying firmly, “I would rather no one clap.” It was a raw moment — the kind that reminds viewers that behind the drama and design, real people are making big sacrifices.

For Mat, the biggest sting wasn’t just the small profit — it was that the amount didn’t even cover what he lost stepping away from his hairdressing business. “It’s not about the money, but it’s about the money,” he admitted honestly. “Just to cover my costs for being away from work, it wouldn’t even come close.”
Robby’s heartbreak, on the other hand, came from a more personal place. He grew emotional talking about his partner Alyssa and their baby boy Brooks, saying, “It does suck not bringing it back for the family. We sacrificed so much, and Alyssa, especially as a new mum, she’s the real hero.” He paused, his voice breaking, before adding, “Walking away with my tail between my legs isn’t a good feeling.”
But Mat quickly jumped in to lift his friend’s spirits: “They just didn’t spend the money we had hoped.” And just like that, the boys managed to find their sense of humour and perspective again. They reminisced about the chaos and fun of their time on The Block — from building disasters to hilarious moments — laughing as Mat joked about creating “the worst bedhead on the planet.”
Despite the heartbreak, both Robby and Mat remained grateful. “Money can’t buy the experience we had,” Robby said with a smile. “We’ve made mates for life.” And as the night came to a close, Mat left fans with a hopeful message: “This isn’t the end of us… watch out, Australia.”
It was a tough finish, no doubt — but for these two mates, the journey itself might have been the biggest win of all.
