India's Likely XI for 1st Test vs West Indies in Ahmedabad
The excitement is building as India prepares to take on the West Indies in the opening Test of the two-match series at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The clash begins today, and much of the discussion has revolved around India’s possible playing eleven. There has been plenty of chatter because two big names—Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav—were being speculated about, whether they would make the cut or not. But as the reports suggest, a fairly balanced squad is expected to be fielded.
At the top of the order, Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s most highly ranked Test batter at the moment, is almost certain to walk out. His aggressive yet composed style has earned him the reputation of a reliable opener, and partnering him will be KL Rahul. Rahul’s past record against the West Indies, where he crossed 500 runs in a series, will be remembered as he looks to set the tone again.

Shubman Gill, the captain, will follow in the middle order. His sensational run against England, where he piled up more than 750 runs in five Tests, has made him the pillar of this lineup. Interestingly, Ravindra Jadeja could be seen batting higher than usual, reflecting his stature as the world’s number one Test all-rounder.
Wicketkeeping duties will fall on the shoulders of Dhruv Jurel. Although only five Tests old, his record of being part of wins in all those games brings confidence. Supporting him in the all-round department is Washington Sundar, who impressed in England and might edge out Axar Patel for the second spin-all-rounder’s role. Another exciting name is Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is set for his Test debut in front of the home crowd in Ahmedabad—a dream moment for the youngster.
In the spin attack, Kuldeep Yadav is expected to return after a strong Asia Cup performance, and fans will be eager to see how he adapts to the red-ball challenge again. The pace battery, meanwhile, will be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, India’s No. 1 Test bowler, who will be playing on his home turf. He will be partnered by Mohammed Siraj, who has been leading the pace attack consistently with energy and precision.
So, while there was speculation about missing stars, it looks like both Bumrah and Kuldeep are very much in the picture for this first Test. A mix of experience and youth is being seen in this XI, and it promises a fascinating contest against the West Indies. For India, the aim will not only be to win but also to prepare a fresh core for future red-ball challenges.
