Jets Legend Nick Mangold, 41, Passes Away After Battle with Kidney Disease
Nick Mangold, the beloved center for the New York Jets, tragically passed away at the age of 41 due to complications from kidney disease. A stalwart of the Jets' offensive line, Mangold had been facing health struggles for some time, battling chronic kidney disease, which he had been open about with his fans. Just weeks ago, Mangold shared his story with the world, revealing his need for dialysis treatments while he awaited a kidney transplant.
In 2006, Mangold was drafted as the 29th overall pick by the Jets after an impressive college career at Ohio State. Over the next 11 years, he became a fixture of the team, anchoring the offensive line and earning seven Pro Bowl selections along with two All-Pro honors. His leadership on the field was unmatched, and his presence helped the Jets reach the AFC Championship games twice.
Known for his toughness and consistent play, Mangold's contributions to the Jets were significant. He started 171 games for the team and was a key player on the offensive line, playing every game from his rookie year until the 2016 season.
