Battlefield 6: REDSEC Launches as EA’s Bold New Free-to-Play Battle Royale
It’s official — Battlefield 6 has entered its next big chapter with the launch of Battlefield: REDSEC , a brand-new free-to-play battle royale mode that went live on October 28, 2025, alongside the game’s highly anticipated Season One update. This release has instantly become one of the biggest talking points in the FPS community, and for good reason — it marks EA’s major leap into the modern battle royale arena, right alongside giants like Warzone and Apex Legends .
Now, this isn’t just another add-on. REDSEC is being treated as a full-fledged experience within the Battlefield 6 universe, featuring its own map, unique classes, and a refined gameplay system designed to blend the classic Battlefield chaos with the structured intensity of battle royale matches. The mode introduces Fort Lyndon , a sprawling, war-torn landscape built for up to 46 players who can squad up in duos or quads. Players drop in from the skies as a team, guided by a squad leader in formation, though they can choose to break off mid-air for solo landings. Much like Apex Legends , coordination and timing play a crucial role right from the moment you hit the ground.
Inside the match, players start with minimal gear — just a pistol — and must scavenge for weapons, attachments, and equipment scattered across the map. You get one redeploy chance per match, adding just enough tension to make every encounter feel decisive. REDSEC also features three distinct modes at launch: Gauntlet , a high-stakes elimination mode with multiple rounds; and standard Duos and Quads battle royale experiences that stick closer to traditional Battlefield gunplay.
Alongside REDSEC, the Season One update has brought a ton of new content — new maps like Blackwell Fields , the new Strikepoint mode, three fresh weapons, and the Traverser Mark 2 vehicle.
