Warriors and Grizzlies Renew Rivalry in High-Stakes Western Clash

It’s another chapter in one of the NBA’s most entertaining rivalries tonight, as the Golden State Warriors host the Memphis Grizzlies at Chase Center. Tip-off is set for 10 PM ET, and fans can catch the action live on NBA League Pass. This matchup brings together two Western Conference powerhouses with plenty of history — and plenty to prove early in the 2025–26 season.

Last year, both teams finished the regular season with identical 48–34 records, and fate had them collide in a high-pressure Play-In showdown. Golden State came out on top in that one, edging out Memphis 121–116 behind a phenomenal night from Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, who combined for an incredible 75 points. Fast forward to now, both squads enter tonight’s game with matching 2–1 records, setting the stage for yet another tightly contested battle.

The biggest spotlight, as always, will shine on the two dynamic point guards — Ja Morant and Stephen Curry. Whenever these two go head-to-head, the energy level skyrockets. Curry, at 37, continues to defy age, averaging an eye-popping 33.3 points per game so far this season while shooting nearly 46% from deep. It’s his hottest start since the 2020–21 campaign, and while it’s early, it’s a reminder that the two-time MVP still has plenty left in the tank. His chemistry with Butler, who joined the Warriors at last season’s trade deadline, seems to have given Golden State a new offensive edge.

Memphis, on the other hand, is leaning on its youth movement. Rookie Cedric Coward, the 11th overall pick in the 2025 Draft, has been nothing short of electric — putting up 19 points per game on a jaw-dropping 70% shooting. Alongside him, second-round pick Javon Small has earned valuable minutes, contributing both as a scorer and playmaker while Scotty Pippen Jr. remains sidelined. The Grizzlies’ ability to blend their youthful energy with Morant’s leadership could be the key to turning their fortunes around.

Inside the paint, both teams are looking to rediscover their rebounding dominance. Last season, they ranked among the top seven in the league in rebounding, but early signs this year show a dip in that department. They’ve also both struggled defensively in the paint, sitting in the bottom five in points allowed. Whoever tightens up defensively around the rim may end up taking the upper hand tonight.

For Memphis, this game carries a little extra weight. The Grizzlies have dropped three straight to the Warriors, including five of their last six matchups. Breaking that streak would not only boost their record but also send a message to the rest of the conference — that they’re still a serious threat.

Expect intensity, plenty of highlights, and a bit of drama — just what fans have come to love whenever the Warriors and Grizzlies share the court.
