Aaron Rodgers Injured: Steelers QB Out for Bears Game, Mason Rudolph to Start

In a significant blow to the Pittsburgh Steelers, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been ruled out for today’s game against the Chicago Bears due to a left wrist injury. The veteran QB, who has been battling through the pain of a fractured wrist, was initially questionable for the matchup, but it has now been confirmed by Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin that Rodgers will not play. Despite his efforts to prepare and push through the injury, Tomlin explained that sitting out was the best decision for the team. “He fought his tail off all week, but that’s the prudent play to make for us as a collective,” said Tomlin. As a result, backup quarterback Mason Rudolph will take the reins for the game, with rookie Will Howard serving as his backup.

Rodgers, who suffered the wrist injury during Pittsburgh's Week 11 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, had been limited in practice this week and did not participate in Wednesday’s session. This marks the first time in his career that Rodgers will miss a chance to face the Bears while playing for the Steelers, having previously faced them 29 times as a member of the Green Bay Packers.

Over his career, Rodgers has dominated the Bears, boasting a 24-5 record against them, with eight straight victories. His last loss to Chicago came in 2018, and he had been hoping for a chance to extend that streak in his new colors. However, with the Steelers clinging to playoff hopes, Rodgers’ absence will be a tough pill to swallow.

Rodgers has thrown for 1,969 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, with 7 interceptions, and was closing in on a major milestone, needing just 79 more yards to become the fifth player in NFL history to pass 65,000 career passing yards. Unfortunately, that milestone will have to wait for at least another week.

With the Steelers sitting at 6-4 and the Bears at 7-3, both teams will be fighting hard for playoff positioning. The Steelers’ playoff chances are on the line, and another loss could push them closer to elimination. But without Rodgers, Pittsburgh will need a strong performance from Mason Rudolph to keep their postseason dreams alive.
