Avenue Q Set to Return to West End for 20th Anniversary
Big news has just landed for theatre fans in London: the iconic musical Avenue Q is officially returning to the West End in 2026 to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The production is scheduled to run at the Shaftesbury Theatre from 20 March to 29 August, giving audiences plenty of time to experience this irreverent, hilarious, and surprisingly heartfelt show.
Produced by Kevin McCollum and Jamie Wilson Productions, the revival promises to bring back the original Broadway puppets that so many fans fell in love with, alongside members of the creative team who shaped the original production. Jason Moore, who directed the debut, will once again be at the helm, while Rick Lyon’s original puppet designs, Stephen Oremus’ orchestrations and arrangements, and Anna Louizos’ set design will all return. Choreography for this anniversary production will be led by Ebony Molina, with casting handled by Pearson Casting. Additional UK creatives will be announced soon, rounding out a team that honors the show’s roots while introducing a fresh energy.

For those new to Avenue Q , the story follows Princeton, a recent college graduate who moves into a run-down apartment on New York’s Avenue Q. There, he meets a cast of eccentric, unforgettable neighbours including Kate Monster, Lucy the Slut, and the Bad Idea Bears, alongside former child actor Gary Coleman, who reluctantly serves as the building superintendent. Through these quirky characters, the musical humorously explores the trials of growing up, navigating relationships, and figuring out one’s place in the world, all accompanied by witty, catchy songs that have become classics, like “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist” and “What Do You Do with a BA in English?”
The show originally premiered in London in 2006 at the Noël Coward Theatre before transferring to the Gielgud and Wyndham’s Theatres, running until 2010. A special concert version was staged at the Sondheim Theatre in 2024 to mark its 18th anniversary, proving that the charm of Avenue Q hasn’t faded. The producers have expressed their excitement for this milestone, describing the revival as a “love letter to the original production” and emphasizing that its message about growing up and finding oneself remains strikingly relevant even after two decades.
While the Shaftesbury Theatre undergoes refurbishment, the production will run in reduced capacity, making early ticket bookings highly recommended. Fans of bold, funny, and heartwarming theatre will not want to miss the return of this classic musical that combines the irreverence of adult comedy with the whimsical charm of puppet storytelling. Avenue Q is set to remind London audiences why it became such a beloved and groundbreaking show, all while celebrating twenty years of laughter, lessons, and unforgettable characters.
Tickets are now on sale, so whether you’re revisiting your favorite puppets or seeing them for the first time, Avenue Q is ready to bring its outrageous humor and tender heart back to the West End.
