Bangladesh Recall Shamim Hossain Ahead of Crucial T20I Decider vs Ireland
What really triggered this move was the rather unusual criticism from Bangladesh captain Litton Das. He openly expressed disappointment about not being consulted when Shamim was left out of the squad earlier. Litton even mentioned that both he and head coach Phil Simmons had no idea about the selectors’ decision. When a captain says something like that publicly, it usually means the discussions behind the scenes were not as smooth as they should’ve been.

Just a few days ago, chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain explained that Shamim had been dropped because the team wanted to test Mahidul Islam Ankon in the middle order. On paper, the decision looked justified, especially because Shamim’s recent form had not been great. His last four T20I innings produced scores of 0, 0, 1 and 1. That’s the kind of streak that puts any player under pressure, regardless of past achievements.
But Shamim isn’t an inexperienced player. He has already featured in 46 T20Is for Bangladesh, scoring 725 runs at an average of over 31. He has seven fifties to his name too, which means he clearly has the ability to steady the middle order when he gets going. In the Bangladesh Premier League as well, he has been reasonably consistent with 880 runs in 51 matches, along with five half-centuries. His ODI numbers aren’t as impressive, but T20 cricket is where he has made a name for himself.
The series itself has been quite dramatic. Ireland took the first game after Bangladesh failed to chase 182, which was a bit of a jolt for the home side. But they came back strongly in the second match, squeezing out a four-wicket win with just two balls to spare while chasing 171. And now, with the series level at 1-1, the final match becomes a winner-takes-all contest.
With Shamim back in the mix, all eyes will be on how Bangladesh balance their XI and whether this late change strengthens their middle order or simply adds more pressure. One thing is certain: the decider just became a whole lot more intriguing.
