Bihar Election 2025: NDA Takes Early Lead as Results Pour In

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections have reached a decisive moment today, with counting underway for all 243 assembly seats. Voters had cast their ballots in two phases earlier this month, on November 6 and 11, and the results are being closely watched across the country. Alongside Bihar, bypoll results for eight assembly seats in six other states and the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir are also being announced. This election is particularly significant, as it is the first Bihar assembly poll in twenty years conducted after a comprehensive Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls.

As counting began at 8 am, early trends quickly revealed a strong showing for the ruling National Democratic Alliance, or NDA. Within just over an hour, the NDA had crossed the halfway mark, leading in around 130 seats. The alliance, spearheaded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United), appeared set to form the next government. The BJP itself led in 60 seats, closely followed by JD(U) with 54. This combined performance indicated a healthy conversion rate of nearly 67 percent for the alliance, according to early tallies.

Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan, which brings together the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and CPI(ML) Liberation, lagged behind in these early trends. Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD led in 49 seats, with Congress and CPI(ML) Liberation showing weaker performances, leading in 16 and six seats respectively. Overall, the alliance trailed with leads in only 75 seats, reflecting a significant gap with the NDA.

Notable individual contests have also drawn attention. In Raghopur, Tejashwi Yadav was reported to hold a slim lead of just over 900 votes, while in Chapra, Bhojpuri singer and RJD candidate Khesari Lal Yadav was trailing behind BJP’s Chhoti Kumari by nearly a thousand votes. Other key leaders, like JD(U)’s Anant Singh from Mokama, were reported ahead by over 2,000 votes, reinforcing the NDA’s early advantage.

Counting is being meticulously conducted under the supervision of 243 Returning Officers and observers, ensuring transparency and accuracy. Reports indicate that no major discrepancies or malpractices have been detected, and no repolls have been recommended. By afternoon, clearer trends are expected, with final results anticipated by evening.

As Bihar watches closely, early indicators suggest that the NDA’s lead could translate into a comfortable victory, while the Mahagathbandhan struggles to gain ground. Citizens, political analysts, and the national media are all keeping a keen eye on these unfolding developments, marking a pivotal moment in Bihar’s political landscape.

In short, the early trends are signaling a decisive outcome, with the NDA comfortably ahead, raising questions about whether Tejashwi Yadav and his alliance can stage a last-minute comeback. The state waits with bated breath as the full results gradually emerge.
