Brisbane Roar Clinch 3-0 Win Over Newcastle Jets on Sunshine Coast
The Newcastle Jets faced a tough afternoon on the Sunshine Coast as Brisbane Roar secured a commanding 3-0 victory. The breakthrough came in the 18th minute when 18-year-old Lucas Herrington found space in the box and headed home from a corner, giving the Roar an early lead. Despite Newcastle’s efforts to respond, the first half ended with Brisbane holding a one-goal advantage.
The Jets started the second half brightly, and Will Dobson nearly leveled the score, only to be denied by a smart save from Brisbane goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis after a cleverly chipped attempt. As the match progressed, the pressure on Newcastle grew, and Brisbane doubled their lead in the 77th minute. A foul by Aleksandar Šušnjar on Roar midfielder Henry Hore inside the box resulted in a penalty, which Jay O’Shea calmly converted, making it 2-0.

The home side sealed the result late in the game when Quinn MacNicol’s shot deflected off the post, leaving the Jets unable to mount a comeback. The match ended 3-0 in favor of Brisbane, a result that highlighted both the Roar’s attacking efficiency and Newcastle’s defensive struggles.
Despite the defeat, there were some bright moments for the Jets, with Dobson and Gibson showing glimpses of their potential. However, the team will now need to regroup as they prepare to face Perth Glory at McDonald Jones Stadium on November 23, following the Men’s FIFA international break.
Brisbane coach Michael Valkanis emphasized that his priority is winning over simply entertaining, and his strategy was clearly executed to perfection on the day.
