Canoe Stuck in Brenta River, Firefighters Step In for Swift Rescue
It was supposed to be a calm and relaxing afternoon on the Brenta River — but for Maurizio Ulliana, a 64-year-old former museum director, the outing turned into an unexpected adventure. On Wednesday, November 5, around 3:45 p.m., Ulliana set out from Dolo, in the province of Venice, for a quiet canoe trip through the beautiful waterways that connect to Padua. But as he reached the locks near Noventa Padovana, his canoe became trapped in a thick, muddy section of the river, leaving him stranded and unable to move forward.
Maintaining his composure, Ulliana quickly realized that freeing the canoe alone was impossible. Without hesitation, he contacted the local fire department. Within minutes, firefighters from Padua — including two specialized water rescue officers — arrived at the scene, equipped with ropes and safety gear to carry out a delicate operation. Using a combination of teamwork and careful maneuvering, they managed to dislodge the canoe from the mud and pull it back into clear water.
