David Reinbacher Shines and Scares in Overtime Victory
Hey everyone, let’s talk about David Reinbacher and the rollercoaster of a night he had with the Laval Rocket. Friday’s game against the Belleville Senators was one of those performances that had a little bit of everything—skill, grit, and, yes, a moment that made fans hold their breath. Reinbacher, the 21-year-old defenseman for the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, put on a show by scoring his first goal of the season, adding an assist, and finishing with a plus-1 rating. This marked his first multi-point game of 2025-26, and it was clear he’s slowly finding his rhythm after a rough start and a four-week absence due to a broken hand.
Reinbacher has had his fair share of injury setbacks early in his career, but patience is a virtue when it comes to his development. The Canadiens’ defense has long been a strength, so there’s no rush. Over nine games this season, he’s now accumulated five points, and his confidence seems to be growing with every shift.

The night, however, wasn’t without a scare. Late in the third period, Reinbacher blocked a shot with his right hand—the same one he fractured in preseason. You could see the grimace, and he skated to the bench in clear discomfort. Fans were understandably nervous, but after a brief pause, he returned for overtime, showing that resilience he’s known for. And it paid off—Adam Engström scored the overtime winner, giving Laval their eleventh OT win of the season.
The game itself was challenging. Laval was missing key players, with Jared Davidson, Joshua Roy, and Florian Xhekaj all absent due to NHL call-ups. Even so, the Rocket managed to compete fiercely, and Reinbacher’s presence on the ice was a huge part of that. The Austrian defenseman’s energy was undeniable, and he clearly made an impact both offensively and defensively.
After the game, Reinbacher reassured everyone that the injury wasn’t serious. With a smile, he reflected on the night: “It feels good to win, to have fun with the guys, and to see all the smiles. I try to work hard every day. The key is to be consistent and to prove it game after game.” His words capture the determination of a young player gradually finding his groove.
So, while the night had its tense moments, it ended on a high note. Reinbacher showed not just his skill but also his toughness, and Laval fans could celebrate the 4-3 overtime win. The team and fans will certainly be keeping an eye on him, but for now, it was a performance to be proud of—a mix of excitement, resilience, and hope for the future.
