First Snowfall Turns Green Bay into a Winter Scene as Temperatures Plunge
Winter made its grand entrance in Green Bay and across Door County this weekend, bringing the first significant snowfall of the season and plenty of chaos along with it. For many residents, it was a sharp reminder that snow season has officially arrived—and that those slippery roads can be unforgiving.
Door County recorded over six inches of snow in some areas, especially farther up the peninsula. The region had been under a Winter Storm Warning for much of Sunday, which extended into Monday morning before finally being downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory. While the snow created some picturesque landscapes, it also caused a fair share of problems on the roads.

Local emergency services were kept busy throughout the day. The Door County Sheriff’s Department responded to nearly a dozen vehicle-related incidents due to slick conditions. Two of those crashes resulted in minor injuries. Early Sunday morning, a 24-year-old woman from Baileys Harbor lost control of her car on State Highway 57, spinning into a ditch and hitting a tree. She was lucky to walk away with only minor injuries. Just after midnight on Monday, another driver—a 21-year-old man from Algoma—overturned his truck on County Highway S after sliding off the road. Fortunately, he too escaped with only minor injuries.
The wintry weather didn’t stop there. According to WBAY meteorologist Nolan Cain, Green Bay and the surrounding areas are still seeing occasional snow showers. While the Winter Storm Warning has expired, temperatures remain low enough to cause slick patches on the roads overnight. Cain noted that travelers should remain cautious Monday morning, as temperatures will hover near the freezing mark.
For those heading to the Packers-Eagles game at Lambeau Field, it’s going to be a cold and windy affair. Expect wind chills to drop into the 20s and possibly even the teens by the end of the game. The advice is simple—bundle up, because the brisk wind isn’t taking a timeout anytime soon.
The good news? There’s a gradual warm-up on the horizon. Forecasts show temperatures climbing back into the 40s and even reaching the low 50s by the end of the week. By Thursday and Friday, the snow could be a distant memory, replaced by clearer skies and milder air.
So, while the first taste of winter may have caused a few headaches, it also served as a friendly reminder—check those tires, slow down on the roads, and keep that snow brush handy. After all, in Green Bay, this is just the beginning of what’s sure to be another unpredictable winter season.
