Flames Shut Out Sharks 2-0 Behind Wolf and Coleman
Last night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, the Calgary Flames put on a dominant display to earn a 2-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks. From the opening puck drop to the final horn, Calgary controlled the game, showing why they were the better team on the ice. The star of the night was goaltender Dustin Wolf, who made 16 key saves to secure his first shutout of the season and the fourth of his career, all while facing his hometown team.
The game’s decisive moment came early in the second period when Blake Coleman, Calgary’s leading goal scorer this season, struck for his seventh goal. Coleman capitalized on a turnover by the Sharks’ defense, took the puck in stride, and fired a perfect snapshot into the top corner past Sharks goalie Yaroslav Askarov. “He has a great sense for where the puck will be,” head coach Ryan Huska said. “Tonight, he was in the right spot and found a way to score.” Samuel Honzek later added an empty-net goal with just seconds remaining to seal the win.

The Flames controlled much of the action, outshooting San Jose 36-16 and creating 39 scoring chances compared to the Sharks’ 12. Calgary’s dominance was clear from the first period, as they held a staggering 13-1 edge in shots on goal. Despite the onslaught, Askarov kept the Sharks in the game with a series of outstanding saves, including denying Matt Coronato and Ryan Lomberg on close-range attempts. Wolf, meanwhile, was calm and composed in net, facing a quieter night but stepping up in key moments, particularly midway through the third period when Macklin Celebrini tested him with several high-danger attempts.
The Flames also benefited from strong defensive play. The team’s checking was praised by Huska, who highlighted how important it was in limiting San Jose’s opportunities. Mikael Backlund contributed with a key assist, and the line featuring Coleman and Honzek showed chemistry that kept the Sharks scrambling all night.
With this win, Calgary snapped a three-game losing streak and collected their third home victory in the last four games. Wolf improved his career record against the Sharks to 8-1-0, further cementing his confidence as the Flames continue to rebuild momentum this season. San Jose, meanwhile, fell to 8-7-3 after having won four straight games prior to this matchup.
Looking ahead, the Flames will host Winnipeg in an all-Canadian clash on Saturday night at 8 p.m. MT before heading out on the road for games in Chicago and Buffalo. Meanwhile, the Sharks will travel to Seattle for their next matchup, hoping to bounce back from this shutout loss. Last night’s game will certainly be remembered for Calgary’s controlled play, Coleman’s timely scoring, and Wolf’s stellar goaltending, a combination that proved too much for the Sharks to overcome.
