Gonçalo Ramos Strikes Late as PSG Edge Nice in Dramatic Finish
Paris Saint-Germain’s clash with OGC Nice turned into a tense, dramatic night at the Parc des Princes — one that once again highlighted Gonçalo Ramos’ growing legend as PSG’s ultimate “supersub.” What looked like a frustrating draw turned into an emotional victory, thanks to Ramos’ last-gasp header deep into stoppage time, sealing a 1-0 win for the French champions on his 100th appearance for the club.
Luis Enrique’s men entered this 11th-round Ligue 1 fixture as league leaders but were under pressure to respond after being held by Lorient the previous week. The Spanish coach had spoken before the match about consistency being key to winning the league and hinted that rotation and rest could be given to any player when needed — even stars like Achraf Hakimi. And true to his word, he made changes, handing young Senny Mayulu a start as a false nine, leaving Ramos on the bench at kickoff.

For much of the game, PSG dominated possession but found themselves repeatedly frustrated by Nice’s compact defense and the heroics of goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf. The visitors, coached by Franck Haise, remained disciplined and organized, forcing PSG into long spells of sterile pressure. The home fans grew restless as chance after chance went begging, with even the in-form Kvaratskhelia and Lee Kang-in unable to find a breakthrough.
Then came the turning point. With less than 20 minutes to go, Enrique turned to his bench — and on came Gonçalo Ramos, eager to make an impact. The Portuguese striker, who has developed a knack for changing games late, wasted no time getting involved. His first header in the 80th minute missed narrowly, his second effort brushed the side netting — but he kept going. And in the fourth minute of stoppage time, his persistence paid off.
A Lee Kang-in corner was flicked on by Kvaratskhelia, and Ramos, timing his leap perfectly, powered home a header past Diouf. The stadium erupted. It was his second league goal of the season and his 18th overall for PSG since joining — remarkably, most of them coming as a substitute. The goal not only gave PSG all three points but also reaffirmed their position at the top of Ligue 1, just days before their Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich.
After the match, Ramos couldn’t hide his joy. Speaking to BeIN Sports, he admitted he hadn’t even realized it was his 100th game for PSG until moments before kickoff. “It’s a special day, a special match,” he said. “It’s incredible to score at the last second, but the most important thing is the victory.” With a smile, he joked about his “supersub” tag — “Maybe I score more because I come in fresher,” he laughed — sending a playful message to his coach that he’s ready for more.
Once again, Gonçalo Ramos proved that sometimes, the hero doesn’t need to start the game — he just needs the right moment to finish it.
