Harmeet Singh Shines as USA Dominate Nepal in Dubai
The clash between Nepal and the United States in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai turned into another strong statement from the USA side. Coming into the match as table-toppers, the Americans once again showed their all-round quality, while Nepal—struggling for form—continued to face pressure in their campaign to stay alive in the qualification race.
Nepal, batting first after the USA opted to bowl, found themselves at 101 for 3 in just under 22 overs. The innings began with some hope as opener Kushal Bhurtel looked fluent, striking a couple of boundaries and two sixes to reach 47 before falling to Harmeet Singh, whose spin once again caused problems for the Nepalese batters. Bhim Sharki followed soon after for 43, also dismissed by Harmeet, leaving Nepal’s middle order under pressure. Captain Rohit Paudel was unbeaten on 6 at the time of the update, with Nepal trying to rebuild after losing quick wickets.

The decision by the USA to bowl first was a smart one. Their bowlers, especially Harmeet Singh and Nosthush Kenjige, maintained tight lines and varied their pace beautifully. Harmeet, who’s been in terrific form recently, already picked up two key wickets by the halfway mark of the innings, continuing his fine run after his career-best performance against Nepal just days earlier.
That earlier encounter remains fresh in memory — Harmeet Singh had absolutely dominated with figures of 6 for 27, the best of his professional career. In that game, the USA had piled up 262 for 6 after a solid start by Smit Patel (75) and a fiery finish from Milind Kumar (70* off 50) and Harmeet himself (16 off just 6). When it was Nepal’s turn to bat, Harmeet’s spin masterclass demolished them for just 156, sealing a 106-run win for the Americans and earning him the Player of the Match award.
This current game feels like an extension of that dominance. The USA’s bowlers have clearly figured out Nepal’s weaknesses and are exploiting them well. On the other hand, Nepal, currently sitting seventh on the points table with only five wins from eleven games, desperately need victories to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Meanwhile, the USA continue to look like a side on a mission. With 16 wins in 22 matches, they’ve all but secured their spot for the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers. Their composure, discipline, and belief under captain Monank Patel have made them one of the most consistent emerging teams in world cricket.
As the game progresses in Dubai, all eyes remain on whether Nepal can recover from yet another collapse—or if Harmeet Singh and the USA will tighten their grip even further.
