Littler One Win Away from World No.1 at Grand Slam of Darts

Luke Littler is just one win away from claiming the world number one spot after an electrifying night at the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton. The 18-year-old, who is the defending champion, battled back from a 9-6 deficit to beat Northern Irishman Josh Rock 16-12 in the quarter-finals, showcasing remarkable composure and skill under pressure. With this win, Littler will face Dutch star Danny Noppert in the semi-finals, while fellow Englishman Luke Humphries meets Wales’ Gerwyn Price in the other semi-final.

The match against Rock was a rollercoaster. Rock initially took control, edging ahead with a 7-6 lead after Littler missed a key double in the 14th leg. But Littler, who averaged an impressive 105.18 during the match, refused to be intimidated. He unleashed a stunning sequence, winning seven legs in a row, including high-quality finishes of 74, 71, 90, 96, and 81, to seize command of the contest. Even when Rock struck back with an 11-darter to narrow the gap, Littler remained unshaken, eventually sealing the victory with a precise double ten finish. Across the match, Littler hit 11 180s, while Rock landed 12, underlining the high standard of play on display.

“It was tough being 9-6 down, but I managed to slow my throw and that helped with timing,” Littler reflected after his victory. “Josh and I always bring the best out of each other. I know I need one more win to become world number one, but first I have to get past Danny tomorrow.”

Danny Noppert booked his semi-final spot by defeating German Lukas Wenig 16-8. Noppert’s combination finishing proved decisive early on, and although Wenig produced moments of brilliance, including a 170 checkout, the Dutchman’s consistent scoring and clinical finishes carried him through. Noppert described reaching the semi-finals as a dream realized, admitting that he is in the best form of his career and confident heading into the next challenge.

The stage is now set for a thrilling Sunday at the WV Active Aldersley arena. Littler will take on Noppert in the afternoon, aiming to secure the world number one ranking with a win, while Humphries and Price battle in the other semi-final. Fans can expect high drama, precision darts, and plenty of competitive fireworks as the Grand Slam of Darts moves toward its climax. With Littler unbeaten so far in 12 matches at the tournament, all eyes will be on the young Englishman as he seeks to defend his title and make history atop the world rankings.
