This summer, McDonald’s Australia has teamed up with Wieden+Kennedy Sydney to launch a festive campaign that brings the Grinch back to wreak havoc on Christmas cheer in a uniquely Aussie way. Following its successful debut in Canada last year, the Grinch Meal has now made its way down under, adding a mischievous twist to Australia’s holiday season.

The Grinch, notorious for his attempts to ruin Christmas, is at it again, but this time, he’s targeting Macca’s. The campaign is built around the idea that, no matter how hard the Grinch tries to spoil the fun, his antics only make things more exciting. With the Grinch determined to spoil Aussie families' holiday break, viewers get to watch his comic efforts unfold in a playful, cinematic ad titled "I’m Ruinin’ It." Directed by Jesse James McElroy, the ad is a fun homage to Dr. Seuss’s iconic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”

In the film, the Grinch spies on the people of Australiaville, clearly disturbed by their holiday joy. His plan to ruin their fun? Targeting their Macca’s meals. He shakes up the festive spirit with a new twist on McDonald’s signature offerings, like the Grinch Meal, which includes a Big Mac, Chicken Big Mac, or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, along with fries and a drink—plus a Frozen Fanta Lemon with green apple popping pearls that turns bright green thanks to the Grinch’s secret touch.

Each meal is served in specially designed Grinch packaging, featuring one of four collectible sand globes—each depicting a beloved Macca’s character, like Grimace or the Hamburglar, having their treasures ‘stolen’ by the Grinch. For those in search of a snack, there’s even the Grinch’s Chicken McWings drizzled with hotcake syrup—a combination that may sound odd, but is surprisingly delicious.

And the Grinch doesn’t stop there. He’s left his mark all over McDonald’s Australia’s social media channels, taking over Instagram with his signature rants like, “It’s supposed to snow at Christmas, why’s this place so stupid?” His takeover extends to 16 Macca’s locations, where the iconic golden arches have been transformed into Grinchy green.

Of course, in classic Grinch style, his attempts to ruin Christmas only make the holiday season brighter for Aussies. As the campaign builds to its conclusion, the Grinch is forced to admit that, despite his best efforts, he can’t help but join in the fun.
