Major M25 Disruptions After Multiple Crashes Near Upminster and Dartford
So, let me walk you through what’s been happening on the M25 today, because it’s been one of those evenings where the motorway has practically turned into a car park. Two separate incidents caused major disruption, one near Upminster and another close to the Dartford Tunnel, leading to long delays and frustrated drivers all around.
First, on the clockwise side of the M25 between Junctions 29 and 30 near Upminster, lanes had to be closed following a crash. Traffic was already heavy in this stretch, and once the lanes were shut, delays started building almost instantly. Drivers were crawling through the area, and long queues began forming as vehicles were diverted and eased through the remaining open lanes. Emergency services were contacted, and updates were gradually being delivered as the situation unfolded.

At almost the same time, another serious issue happened in the anticlockwise direction near the Dartford Tunnel. A separate crash forced two lanes to be shut between Dartford and Lakeside. The impact was felt immediately because this part of the M25 is already one of the busiest stretches in the country, especially during the evening commute. What made things worse was the temporary closure of the left-hand tunnel, which caused traffic to back up significantly through Dartford itself.
Drivers approaching the tunnel found themselves stuck in long, slow-moving queues, with tailbacks spreading far beyond the immediate area. Although the tunnel has since been reopened, the delays didn’t clear right away. The sheer volume of traffic meant that congestion lingered for quite some time, even after the lanes were restored.
Emergency teams were said to be responding, although full details haven’t been released yet. As always, people were being encouraged to check travel updates, listen to local radio stations, or use live traffic maps to avoid getting caught in the worst of it.
All in all, it’s been an evening defined by gridlock on the M25, with two crashes creating a knock-on effect that rippled across the region. If you’ve ever driven that section of the motorway, you already know how quickly one incident can cause total chaos — and today was a perfect example. Hopefully, the roads clear up soon and everyone involved in these incidents is safe.
