Norris Extends F1 Title Lead After Commanding Win in São Paulo
What a weekend it was at Interlagos! The São Paulo Grand Prix 2025 delivered all the speed, chaos, and high drama we expect from Formula 1, and it ended with Lando Norris once again standing on the top step of the podium. The McLaren driver produced a flawless performance to win the race, strengthening his grip on the championship title with just three rounds left in the season.
From the very start, Norris looked in total control. He converted his pole position into an early lead and never looked back. Every lap felt like a statement — smooth, confident, and precise. By the end, he crossed the line over ten seconds clear of Mercedes’ rising star, Kimi Antonelli, who impressed everyone with his calm under pressure. Max Verstappen, meanwhile, completed a remarkable comeback drive to finish third after starting from the pit lane and dealing with an early puncture. It was a gritty, determined effort from the Dutchman, showing flashes of the relentless racer we’ve seen dominate seasons past.

For Norris, though, this victory means much more than another trophy. Just a few months ago, after Zandvoort, he was trailing his teammate Oscar Piastri by 34 points. Fast-forward to São Paulo, and that gap has completely flipped — Norris now leads the championship by 24 points. It’s been an incredible turnaround, marked by consistency and a clear sense of confidence within the McLaren camp.
The race itself had its share of chaos. Piastri, who started well, was handed a 10-second penalty after colliding with Antonelli during a restart, which pushed him down to fifth by the finish. George Russell took fourth, while the midfield battle behind was fierce. Haas’s Oliver Bearman once again impressed with a sixth-place finish, and both Racing Bulls drivers — Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar — brought home double points. Even Pierre Gasly managed to snatch the final point for Alpine, giving the struggling team a small but much-needed boost.
As the champagne sprayed over the Interlagos podium, Norris lifted a stunning, heavy winner’s trophy to the cheers of the Brazilian crowd. His McLaren team celebrated yet another “perfect weekend,” having secured both pole positions and victories across the sprint and main race.
Now, with just three rounds remaining — starting with Las Vegas in two weeks — the championship picture is clearer than ever. Norris has momentum, confidence, and a growing lead. But with hungry young talents like Antonelli and experienced racers like Verstappen still pushing hard, the battle is far from over.
One thing’s for sure: the 2025 Formula 1 season just keeps getting better.
