OHL Suspends Luke Dragusica for Remainder of Season
The Ontario Hockey League has taken decisive action against Brampton Steelheads forward Luke Dragusica following a serious on-ice incident last week. Dragusica has been suspended for the rest of the regular season and playoffs after swinging his stick at the head of an opponent, an act deemed both dangerous and unacceptable by league officials.
The incident occurred on November 14 during a game against the Oshawa Generals. With just over two minutes left in the third period, Dragusica was assessed a match penalty for slashing. The target of the slash, Generals defenceman Brady Blaseg, suffered a cut to the head and required immediate on-ice attention from a trainer. While Blaseg was able to leave the ice under his own power, he did not return to the remainder of that game. However, he did dress for Oshawa’s next game on November 16.

Prior to this latest decision, Dragusica had already been suspended indefinitely as the OHL conducted a thorough review of the incident. This review involved analyzing game footage, examining official reports, and interviewing both teams and their representatives. After careful consideration, the league concluded that the deliberate use of a stick as a weapon against a defenseless player is a serious violation that cannot be tolerated.
Alongside the suspension, Dragusica will be required to complete a league-mandated program that includes education, counselling, and community service. He will also need to appear before a Reinstatement Panel before he can apply to return for the 2026–27 season. The OHL emphasized that this sanction is intended not only to penalize the player but also to reinforce player safety and uphold the standards of conduct expected in the league.
This suspension serves as a strong message that actions endangering others on the ice will be met with severe consequences. The league has made it clear that the safety and well-being of players are paramount, and any deliberate attempt to harm an opponent will be met with firm disciplinary measures.
