Remembering Lives Well Lived: Morris Kolody and Judith Kohler
Today, I want to take a moment to remember and reflect on the lives of two remarkable individuals, whose recent passings have left their families, friends, and communities in mourning. Their stories remind us of the power of love, dedication, and the quiet impact one life can have on many.
Morris “Mo” Kolody, who passed away on November 3, 2025, at the age of 79, was a man whose life was defined by family, faith, and service. Born in Ukraine, Mo immigrated to Canada with his parents and sister in 1951, beginning a journey that would see him contribute to his community in numerous ways. He served as a police officer, worked at General Motors, and eventually co-founded Kolody Contracting with his beloved wife Marlene, who was his partner in both business and life for 60 cherished years.

Mo’s love for his family was evident in everything he did. He was a devoted father to Kathy Beuglet and David Kolody, a proud grandfather of five, and a great-grandfather to little Leon Morris Surlin. Friends and family remember him for his gentle strength, enduring sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. Beyond his family, Mo was deeply committed to his Ukrainian heritage, supporting his homeland and its independence efforts tirelessly. An avid outdoorsman, he also cultivated friendships that lasted decades. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him daily and shaping the legacy he leaves behind. In accordance with his wishes, Mo’s cremation has taken place, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Morris Kolody Scholarship Legacy Fund through the WindsorEssex Community Foundation.
Similarly, the community mourns the passing of Mrs. Judith Eve Kohler, fondly known as Judy, who left us suddenly on October 31, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in Tarentorus, Ontario, Judy lived a life full of family, friendship, and spirited engagement with her community. She was the beloved mother of six children and a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother to many. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and an undeniable energy that drew people to her.
Judy’s life was marked by service and devotion. She volunteered tirelessly with veterans’ organizations, raised funds for charity, and brought joy to countless lives through her work as a cheerful waitress and her love for community events. She embraced life fully, dancing with joy, traveling extensively, and celebrating every moment, from family gatherings to Halloween festivities. Her faith was broad and inclusive, encompassing kindness, generosity, and a boundless spirit that touched everyone around her. Cremation has taken place, and her family will privately celebrate her remarkable life.
Both Mo and Judy leave behind legacies of love, laughter, and resilience. Their stories are a reminder that while life is fleeting, the impact we make through family, friendship, and community endures, inspiring those who follow. Through memories, shared stories, and the values they lived by, Mo and Judy will continue to be celebrated and cherished for generations to come.
