Roughriders Clinch 112th Grey Cup with 25-17 Victory Over Alouettes
Winnipeg witnessed an electrifying showdown as the Saskatchewan Roughriders were crowned champions of the 112th Grey Cup, defeating the Montreal Alouettes 25-17. The game, played at Princess Auto Stadium, was marked by a dominant defensive display and key rushing touchdowns that ultimately sealed the victory for the Green and White.
The Alouettes struck first, taking a 7-1 lead late in the opening quarter, but the Roughriders quickly turned the tide. Saskatchewan responded with 24 unanswered points, establishing a commanding presence on both sides of the ball. AJ Ouellette and Tommy Stevens were standout performers, combining for three rushing touchdowns that energized the Riders and kept Montreal on the back foot. Brett Lauther’s kicking also contributed crucial points, adding consistency to the scoreboard.

Saskatchewan’s defense was particularly impressive, forcing three interceptions courtesy of Marcus Sayles, Rolan Milligan Jr., and Tevaughn Campbell. These turnovers disrupted Montreal’s rhythm and prevented the Alouettes’ quarterback, Davis Alexander, from finding any passing rhythm. Alexander finished the game with no touchdowns and three interceptions, marking his first loss as a CFL starter. Backup Shea Patterson and running back Stevie Scott III contributed Montreal’s ground scores, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Riders’ dominance.
The game’s momentum swung early when Marcus Sayles jumped a deep pass from Alexander, earning the first takeaway of the night and setting the tone for Saskatchewan’s defense. Though Montreal briefly regained control with a touchdown by Patterson, the Roughriders quickly regained the lead. Tommy Stevens’ one-yard rushing touchdown gave Saskatchewan an 8-7 edge, and Ouellette’s explosive five-yard score extended it further to 15-7 before halftime.
The second half began with Saskatchewan continuing to dominate. Stevens added his second touchdown, and Lauther’s long field goal increased the lead to 25-7. Montreal fought back, with Scott III punching in an 11-yard touchdown and a field goal narrowing the gap to 25-17. Despite late efforts by the Alouettes, including a 51-yard connection from Alexander to Snead, Saskatchewan’s defense held firm. A critical fumble near the goal line by Patterson, recovered by Tevaughn Campbell, extinguished Montreal’s final threat.
As the clock ran down, the Roughriders controlled possession and maintained their lead, celebrating their first Grey Cup triumph since 2013. It was a night defined by strategic plays, defensive heroics, and timely touchdowns, leaving Saskatchewan fans jubilant and Montreal reflecting on what could have been.
The 112th Grey Cup will be remembered not just for the Roughriders’ win, but for a game where defense, determination, and opportunistic plays wrote the story of a championship reclaimed.
