It was a truly special day for Tess Daly , the much-loved host of Strictly Come Dancing , as she was officially made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to broadcasting and charity. The honour was presented by King Charles during an emotional investiture ceremony held at Windsor Castle , where Tess was proudly supported by her husband, Vernon Kay , and their daughter, Phoebe .

Dressed elegantly in a red caped midi dress paired with a matching fascinator, Tess looked radiant as she accepted the award — but the moment was made even more poignant when she revealed that she was dedicating the honour to her late father, Vivian , who passed away in 2003. She spoke lovingly of him, saying he would have been immensely proud to see his daughter meet the King “in a castle,” something that clearly carried deep emotional meaning for her.

After the ceremony, Tess shared that the King had put her at ease during their conversation. She admitted to being nervous beforehand, but said that His Majesty’s warmth quickly settled her nerves. The two spoke about Strictly Come Dancing , and Tess noted with a smile that the Queen herself is a fan of the show — even sending her a personal letter of congratulations upon hearing about the MBE, a gesture Tess described as “something that meant the world.”

The TV presenter also revealed that King Charles thanked her for her long-standing work with The King’s Trust , acknowledging how her efforts have helped raise funds and transform the lives of many young people. Tess said she was “deeply proud” to play a role in the charity’s mission and called it one of the most meaningful parts of her career.

Reflecting on her 25 years in television, Tess described receiving the MBE as “the greatest honour” of her professional life. “It still feels surreal,” she said, “to be among people who’ve made such a difference in their communities. It was such an inspiring environment.”

This comes as Tess and her Strictly co-host Claudia Winkleman prepare to step down from the show after their final appearance in the upcoming Christmas special. The pair have co-hosted together since 2014, becoming the first all-female presenting duo on Saturday night prime-time television.

As Tess looks ahead to the next chapter, she admits she’ll miss the sparkle of Strictly — but says she’s also looking forward to some well-earned rest and new adventures in the new year. “There’s no show like it,” she said, smiling. “But I’ll be watching from home with Claudia — and loving every minute.”
