Thanksgiving 2025: Who’s Open, Who’s Closed, and Where You Can Still Find a Holiday Bite
Thanksgiving in the U.S. is landing on Thursday, November 27, 2025, and as always, the holiday rush is in full swing. People are traveling, hosting, prepping, and juggling all the details that come with the season. But even with all the planning in the world, there’s always that moment when you need a quick bite, a caffeine refill, or even a full holiday meal made for you. Thankfully, a wide mix of restaurants—both national chains and local favorites—will be open to help people get through the day.
Across the country, many well-known fast-food chains are expected to open, though hours often depend on each location. Places like McDonald’s, Subway, Whataburger, Starbucks, and Dunkin’ will largely keep their doors open, giving people access to coffee and meals when they need them. Since many locations operate independently, people are encouraged to check hours before heading out, as some stores may adjust for the holiday.

On the flip side, several big names will go fully dark for the day. Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Panera Bread, Taco Bell, Raising Cane’s, Shake Shack, Texas Roadhouse, and First Watch will all be closed nationwide. A few brands, like Subway or Firehouse Subs, may have select locations open, but most will shut their doors. Even Cheesecake Factory will close almost everywhere, with just two exceptions: one in Hanover, Maryland, and another inside The Forum Shops in Las Vegas.
For sit-down dining, some chains and casual restaurants plan to embrace Thanksgiving. Cracker Barrel will operate as usual, ready to serve guests, and Golden Corral will open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering extended hours in a few markets. Fogo de Chão will welcome guests for a full day of service from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and IHOP and Waffle House will also remain open, though IHOP locations might vary in hours. Krispy Kreme shops will operate until 2 p.m., giving people a chance to grab something sweet before settling in for the holiday feast.
In Austin, the holiday dining scene will be lively. Restaurants like the Ruby Hotel & Bar, Soupleaf Hot Pot, Yamas, Pins Mechanical, and several Domain Northside favorites—including Paul Martin’s, Perry’s Steakhouse, Yard House, Jack & Ginger’s, and more—will welcome guests with special prix fixe menus, family-style meals, or regular offerings. Some spots even host entertainment, pop-ups, game day screenings, and extended weekend events.
So whether someone needs a quick snack before dinner, wants to skip cooking altogether, or simply enjoys the tradition of dining out on Thanksgiving, plenty of options will be available. Just like every year, the best advice is simple: check ahead, call your local spot, and enjoy the holiday without the stress of wondering what’s open.
