The King of Kung Fu Faces The Doctor: Salikhov vs. Medic Set for Explosive Showdown

In Las Vegas this weekend, fight fans are in for a real treat as Muslim Salikhov and Uros Medic go head-to-head in what promises to be a striking masterclass at UFC Vegas 111. The welterweight matchup at the UFC Apex is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated bouts on the main card — and for good reason. Both fighters are knockout artists, both have highlight-reel finishes to their names, and both are coming off huge first-round stoppages.

Uros Medic, nicknamed “The Doctor,” enters the Octagon looking to build consistency after an up-and-down UFC run. With a professional record of 11–3, Medic has never gone the distance in his career. Every single one of his victories has come via knockout or submission, showing his aggressive and finish-oriented fighting style. He’s fresh off a devastating first-round knockout of Gilbert Urbina earlier this year, landing a perfectly timed left hand that sent his opponent crashing to the canvas. Medic’s youth, energy, and explosiveness make him a dangerous opponent for anyone — especially in the early minutes of a fight.

Across from him stands Muslim Salikhov, the 41-year-old Russian veteran famously known as “The King of Kung Fu.” With a record of 22–5, Salikhov’s name carries weight in combat sports circles. A decorated Wushu Sanda fighter before transitioning to MMA, he’s one of the most technically refined strikers in the division. Despite his age, he’s been on a hot streak lately, riding a three-fight winning run that includes a split-decision win over Santiago Ponzinibbio and two eye-catching first-round knockouts over Song Kenan and Carlos Leal.

This fight is expected to stay on the feet, with very little grappling — just pure stand-up warfare. Medic, a southpaw with explosive power, will likely look to press the pace early, testing Salikhov’s timing and reflexes. However, Salikhov has made a career out of using his opponent’s aggression against them. His ability to counterstrike with precision — especially against southpaws — makes him extremely dangerous when opponents overcommit.

Analysts are divided. Oddsmakers have Medic slightly favored, around -150, while Salikhov sits as a +120 underdog. Yet, many believe experience and composure could tilt the edge toward the Russian veteran. At this stage in his career, Salikhov still moves with impressive speed and awareness, and if he can weather Medic’s early storm, his counterpunching could turn the tide.

Expect fireworks from the opening bell. Both men have knockout power capable of ending the fight in an instant. But if patience and experience prevail, Muslim Salikhov could deliver another highlight-reel finish — possibly a knockout by the middle of Round 2.

It’s youth versus experience, aggression versus precision, “The Doctor” versus “The King of Kung Fu.” And on Saturday night in Las Vegas, only one of them will leave with the momentum — and likely a bonus check — in hand.
