Fans of The Witcher are in for some surprising—and emotional—news. Netflix’s epic fantasy series has officially wrapped filming for its fifth and final season, and what’s even more exciting is that the wait for its release may be much shorter than anyone expected.

After a two-year gap between Seasons 3 and 4, the production team has moved quickly this time. According to reports, The Witcher Season 5 finished filming last month—before Season 4 had even hit Netflix. This means post-production is already underway, putting the next season on track for a potential release as early as September 2026. Considering that the previous season took nearly a year for post-production, fans might only have to wait about twelve months this time around—an unusually fast turnaround for a show packed with visual effects, action sequences, and international locations.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich confirmed that filming had wrapped just weeks ago and described the moment as both bittersweet and fulfilling. She shared that although she expected to feel sadness after such a long journey, what actually set in was a sense of pride. “What happened more and more was this celebration of what we were able to do,” she said, reflecting on the team’s accomplishments. “Not many shows get to complete five full seasons, and even fewer know exactly when and how they’re going to end.”
Of course, The Witcher ’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. The show weathered a major change when Henry Cavill stepped away from the role of Geralt of Rivia after Season 3, passing the sword to Liam Hemsworth.
