Friday night’s matchup between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors suddenly feels very different, and it all starts with Anthony Edwards. Minnesota’s superstar guard has officially been ruled out, and that single decision has shifted the tone of what was shaping up to be one of the more intriguing Western Conference battles of the week.

The ruling came Friday afternoon, with foot soreness being cited as the reason. What makes it surprising is how sharp Edwards looked just days ago. On Monday, he poured in 41 points against Phoenix, shooting with confidence and control, and there were no obvious signs of trouble. After a couple of off days, his name quietly appeared on the injury report as questionable, and now it has turned into a confirmed absence. How the soreness developed, and how long it might linger, has not yet been made clear.

Edwards won’t be the only missing piece for Minnesota. Veteran point guard Mike Conley is also out, dealing with right Achilles tendinopathy. That means the Timberwolves are suddenly thin in the backcourt, losing both their primary scorer and their steady organizer in the same game. Because of that, the starting lineup is expected to look very different. Bones Hyland is likely to be pushed into a larger role to help handle the ball, with rookie Rob Dillingham backing him up. Around them, the familiar core of Donte DiVincenzo, Jaden McDaniels, Julius Randle, and Rudy Gobert should still be there, while Naz Reid and Terrence Shannon Jr. are expected to provide scoring punch off the bench.

On the other side, Golden State is welcoming back its biggest name. Stephen Curry is set to return after missing more than two weeks with a quad strain, and his presence alone changes the energy inside Chase Center. However, the Warriors won’t be fully healthy either. Draymond Green has been ruled out for personal reasons, and Al Horford remains sidelined with a back issue. Even so, a starting group built around Curry, Buddy Hield, Jimmy Butler, and a mix of young contributors is expected to take the floor.

This game also carries some emotional weight. It’s the first meeting between these teams since Minnesota eliminated Golden State in last season’s Western Conference semifinals. That memory still lingers, even if the circumstances are very different now.

With Edwards out, the Timberwolves will be tested on their depth and resilience. With Curry back, the Warriors see opportunity. Tip-off is set for 9:10 p.m. CT, and while one star won’t be there, the stakes remain high.
