Auburn Eyes USF Standouts as Golesh Builds His 2026 Roster
As National Signing Day rolls on, it’s becoming pretty clear that Alex Golesh isn’t wasting a single moment as he works to reshape Auburn’s roster for the 2026 season. His first weeks on the job have already been marked by aggressive moves, including flipping multiple USF commitments, and that momentum is expected to continue once the transfer portal officially opens from January 2nd through the 16th. The strategy feels straightforward: bring in players who already understand Golesh’s system, mix them with Auburn’s existing talent, and speed up the transition into the SEC.
One of the biggest names to watch is quarterback Byrum Brown, who played under Golesh this past year at UCF. Brown threw for more than 3,100 yards and added over 1,000 on the ground, making him one of the most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. With one year of eligibility left, a reunion at Auburn would make sense on paper. Still, the Tigers already have a full quarterback room with Ashton Daniels, Deuce Knight, and Jackson Arnold. And if Brown chooses to stay at USF instead, Golesh could look at two younger Bulls quarterbacks, Locklan Hewlett and Marcelis Tate, as developmental options who already know his offense.

He was a major part of Golesh’s offense last season, putting up 877 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging an impressive 17.5 yards per catch. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he brings the kind of size and physicality that can help stabilize a receiving corps facing uncertainty heading into 2025. His familiarity with the scheme could make Auburn’s offensive transition much smoother.
Auburn’s offensive line will also need major reinforcements, and that makes former five-star prospect Jordan Seaton a huge potential target. After a tough season at Colorado, Seaton could be looking for a fresh start, and with Auburn losing several starting linemen, the door is wide open for someone of his caliber to step in and help define Golesh’s new offensive identity.
On defense, Jo Pierce is a name to watch. The Montgomery native entered the portal after Oklahoma State’s coaching change and has the kind of background that makes him a strong depth option. Auburn is expected to retain most of its defensive roster, but adding Pierce would bolster a safety group that already features rising stars like Eric Winters and AnQuon Fegans.
And then there’s the bold possibility: Ryan Williams. Despite his early success at Alabama, his limited involvement in the 2025 Iron Bowl has raised eyebrows. With deep family ties to Auburn and a strong prior interest in the program, a flip would be massive. If Golesh can pull that off, it could become one of the biggest recruiting victories in the state in years.
