Costco Extends Weekend Hours for Canadians—And This Time It’s Permanent
So, here’s a change that a lot of Canadian shoppers will probably appreciate. Costco has officially announced a permanent shift to its weekend hours, and it’s something many people have quietly wished for—more time to roam those massive aisles without feeling rushed. Starting in 2026, all Costco warehouses across Canada will close at 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays , instead of the usual 6 p.m., and this isn’t just a holiday-season perk. It’s a year-round update.
This move was revealed in a video posted by Costco Canada, where the company confirmed that the extended holiday hours customers were enjoying weren’t going away. Instead, they’re being adopted as part of Costco’s permanent schedule. It’s a small change on paper, but for families, weekend warriors, and anyone who has tried to squeeze in a Costco run between errands, it’s a pretty meaningful shift.
Think about how busy those weekend afternoons can get. Thousands of shoppers across Ontario—and the rest of the country—flood into their local Costco stores every weekend, especially around the holidays. The extra hour may not clear out the crowds completely, but it does give people a little more breathing room to browse, grab last-minute groceries, or simply enjoy a few food samples without the pressure of closing time creeping up.
This announcement also lands at a moment when Costco’s popularity in Canada is higher than ever. A study by Dunnhumby recently ranked Costco as the top grocery retailer in the country, outpacing big names like Walmart, Maxi, and Super C. According to that report, Costco’s strength comes from its strong value proposition—good prices, solid promotions, reliable rewards, efficient operations, and a digital setup that continues to improve. Ontario alone now has more than 40 warehouses, including a brand-new one in East Gwillimbury.

Along with the extended weekend hours, Costco’s full Canadian schedule will now run from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays , and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends . The only exceptions remain Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, when all locations stay closed.
And if you’re shopping there without a membership yet, the cost remains the same: a Gold Star or Business membership starts at $65 plus tax , while the Executive membership is $130 , offering a 2% annual reward on qualifying purchases up to $1,250.
So in short, Costco shoppers are getting a little more time, a little more convenience, and a change that feels like a natural fit for how Canadians already shop—especially on those busy weekends.
