Dead Woman Found on easyJet Flight Sparks Shock and Questions at Malaga Airport
A deeply unsettling incident on an easyJet flight from Malaga to London Gatwick has left passengers shocked and authorities searching for answers. What was meant to be a routine morning departure turned into a surreal and disturbing scene when an elderly British woman was discovered to have died onboard, moments before the aircraft was due to take off.
According to multiple passenger accounts, the 89-year-old woman had been brought onto the plane in a wheelchair by several family members. It was reportedly explained to airport staff that she was unwell and simply asleep. Witnesses later claimed that ground staff had questioned the family more than once about her condition, and each time they were reassured that everything was fine. Some passengers even alleged that relatives insisted they were doctors and said the woman was “just tired.”
The family was able to seat her toward the back of the aircraft, and for a short while, the situation went unnoticed. However, just as the plane was preparing for departure shortly after 11am, cabin crew became concerned and checked on the woman. It was then realised that she had passed away. The aircraft was immediately stopped, emergency services were called, and passengers were asked to disembark.

Several travellers later described their disbelief and distress. One passenger said the woman appeared lifeless even while being wheeled through the cabin, with someone holding her head upright. Another claimed that a doctor onboard confirmed she had already died before being seated. Anger was also expressed over how such a situation could have progressed so far, with some passengers suggesting that financial reasons, such as avoiding expensive repatriation costs, may have played a role.
easyJet has strongly denied claims that a deceased person was knowingly allowed to board the flight. The airline stated that the woman had a valid “fit to fly” medical certificate and was alive at the time of boarding. According to the airline, the plane returned to the stand because a passenger required urgent medical assistance, and although emergency services responded, the woman sadly died onboard.
Spanish authorities later confirmed that officers attended the aircraft and that the death was officially declared inside the plane. No arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation.
The flight was delayed by around 12 hours and eventually departed close to midnight, leaving passengers shaken by what they had witnessed. The case has also drawn attention to the strict and complex rules surrounding the international transport of human remains, which normally involves extensive documentation and specialised arrangements.
As the investigation continues, the incident has raised serious questions about airport medical checks, airline procedures, and how such a tragic and disturbing situation was able to unfold in full view of fellow travellers.
