They admitted that shared trauma had kept them bonded, but that bond had slowly become suffocating rather than comforting.
That’s when Jonathan revealed the engagement ring he had secretly been carrying, hidden inside a cassette tape. Instead of proposing, he delivered what fans are now calling the “un-proposal,” asking Nancy if she would not marry him. It was an emotional moment, filled with tears and sincerity, but it wasn’t romantic in the traditional sense. Both of them acknowledged that getting engaged would not fix what was broken between them. When Nancy accepted the un-proposal, it was clear that this was a mutual decision to let go.
The show’s creators later confirmed what many viewers suspected. This scene was meant to be a breakup, plain and simple.
