Firewolves Gear Up for Halifax Test After Electric Oshawa Debut
So, the Oshawa Firewolves are riding a serious wave of momentum right now, and the buzz around them has only grown as they get set for their next matchup against the Halifax Thunderbirds. Their home opener on Nov. 28 wasn’t just a game — it was a moment. And honestly, you could feel that from the way head coach and GM Glenn Clark talked about it afterward.
He said the energy inside the Tribute Communities Centre was unbelievable, the kind of support a team dreams about. The building was packed, the crowd was loud, and the Firewolves stole an 8–7 thriller from the Toronto Rock thanks to a late game-winner from Ethan “Ewok” Walker. Clark admitted he had been overwhelmed for days afterward, and you can tell this debut meant a lot to him and the entire organization.

What makes it even more special is how personal this move was for Clark. When the team was still in Albany last season and discussions began about relocating, Clark pushed hard for Oshawa. He knew the region’s lacrosse heartbeat — from the Brooklin Redmen to the Whitby Warriors — and he believed the community would rally behind a pro team. And he was right. That home opener basically confirmed everything he had been saying to ownership.
Clark, who started his NLL playing career back in 1997 and later coached the Toronto Rock before taking over the Firewolves in 2015, knows the league inside out. He keeps reminding everyone that NLL games are rarely predictable — tons of pace, constant momentum swings, and plenty of one-goal finishes. Last season alone, the Firewolves dropped three straight overtime games, so they understand better than anyone that nothing is ever over until the last second.
Now, after a dream start in their new “den,” the Firewolves hit the road for two important early-season tests. First up is Halifax on Dec. 5, a matchup that will be broadcast nationally on TSN. Then they head to Georgia to face the Swarm on Dec. 13. These games are a chance to prove that the excitement around their opener wasn’t just a one-night spark — it’s something they can carry with them into tough buildings across the league.
But don’t worry, fans won’t have to wait long to see them back at home. On Dec. 19, the Firewolves return to the TTC for a special Teddy Bear Toss night against the Vancouver Warriors. Once the Firewolves score their first goal, all those teddy bears fans bring will be thrown onto the floor and later donated to kids who need a little extra joy this Christmas.
Clark said it clearly: the Firewolves plan to be in Oshawa for the long haul — a decade or more if things go the way they hope. And if every night feels even a little bit like that electric opener, the future looks bright for lacrosse in the Motor City.
