Jordan Love’s Injury Casts Shadow Over Packers’ Overtime Loss to Bears

What was supposed to be another chapter in the Packers–Bears rivalry ended up turning into a worrying night for Green Bay, as quarterback Jordan Love was forced out of the game with a concussion after a frightening helmet-to-helmet hit. The moment shifted the tone of the entire matchup and hung heavily over a dramatic 22–16 overtime loss to Chicago.

It all happened in the second quarter at Soldier Field. Love dropped back, pressure closed in, and he was brought down hard by Bears defender Austin Booker. The hit was high, direct, and immediately alarming. Love stayed down on the turf for several seconds, clearly shaken, as players from both sides gathered around. A penalty flag was thrown for unnecessary roughness, and the hit was later confirmed as helmet-to-helmet contact.

After slowly getting to his feet, Love jogged off the field and into the blue medical tent on the sideline. Not long after that, he was escorted to the locker room for further evaluation. By halftime, it was announced that Love had been ruled out for the remainder of the game with a concussion. For the Packers, it was a brutal blow in a game they were still very much controlling at that point.

Malik Willis was then asked to step in under center, and to his credit, the offense stayed afloat. Willis played with confidence, completing nine of his 11 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 44 rushing yards. The Packers even built a 16–6 lead late in the fourth quarter, and it looked like they might survive the loss of their starting quarterback.

But momentum slowly slipped away. The Bears mounted a late comeback, helped by a quick field goal, a successful onside kick recovery, and a clutch fourth-down touchdown pass from Caleb Williams that tied the game. In overtime, Green Bay had the ball first but couldn’t convert a key fourth-and-short in Chicago territory. That decision proved costly.

Just a few plays later, Williams launched a deep pass downfield to DJ Moore, who hauled in a 46-yard touchdown to end the game on the spot. The Bears celebrated a stunning overtime win, while the Packers were left to process both the loss and the uncertainty surrounding Love’s health.

Now, attention shifts to what comes next. Green Bay sits at 9-5-1 and is preparing to host the Baltimore Ravens, but all eyes will be on Love’s concussion protocol and whether he can return in time. The result may fade with time, but the image of their quarterback walking off the field will linger much longer for Packers fans.
