If you’re settling down in front of the TV this Christmas Eve and looking for something warm, funny, and genuinely uplifting, Channel 4 has lined up a festive drama that feels like a proper seasonal treat. It’s called Finding Father Christmas , and it arrives tonight with a cast that’s being described as packed with some of Britain’s best-loved stars.

At the heart of the story is Lenny Rush, best known to many for his work on Doctor Who . He plays Chris, a 16-year-old who still believes in Santa Claus, and he believes in him fiercely. While most people his age have long moved on, Chris isn’t ready to let go of that magic. When his dad tries to sit him down for “the talk” and gently explain that Father Christmas isn’t real, it doesn’t land well at all. Instead of accepting it, Chris digs his heels in and decides he’s going to prove everyone wrong.
What follows is a festive adventure that quickly snowballs into something much bigger. Alongside his cousin Holly, played by Ele McKenzie, Chris sets off on a mission to find concrete proof that Father Christmas really does exist. This journey pulls them into the middle of what can only be described as a Christmas conspiracy. A group of scientists and thinkers are encountered along the way, and it’s hinted that they may actually understand the science behind Santa’s supposedly impossible feats. The idea that magic and science could sit side by side is explored in a playful and thoughtful way.
As Chris travels deeper into this strange world, a whole range of Santas and so-called Santa experts are met. Each encounter raises the same question: is the real Father Christmas out there somewhere, or is the belief itself the most important thing of all?
The cast surrounding Rush is seriously impressive. James Buckley plays Chris’s dad, bringing a familiar comedic edge, while Greg Davies, Asim Chaudhry, and Rochenda Sandall also appear. There are even appearances from Stephen Fry, Hannah Fry, Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock, and Jason Fox, which adds to the feeling that this is a true ensemble piece.
Behind the scenes, the film has been described as a joyful celebration of belief, family, and the enduring magic of Christmas. It’s been promised as laugh-out-loud funny in places, but also genuinely moving, with plenty of heart woven into the story.
Blending comedy, adventure, and emotion, Finding Father Christmas airs tonight on Channel 4 at 7.30pm. If you’re after something that leans fully into the wonder of the season, this one looks ready to deliver.
