Massive Recall Issued for Popular Oster Toaster Ovens
So, here’s what’s happening right now. A major recall has been issued for Oster French Door Toaster Countertop Ovens, and it affects more than 1.4 million units sold across Canada and the United States. If you own one of these oven models, this is definitely something to pay attention to.
Health Canada recently expanded an earlier recall notice after adding another model to the list. These ovens were sold through some of the biggest retailers—Amazon, Costco, Walmart, Home Hardware, and others—so the products have been widely used in homes for almost a decade. The issue revolves around the oven’s spring-loaded French doors , which can unexpectedly swing shut during use. Because of that, users can be burned if their hands or arms are inside or near the opening at the time.
The original recall, published back in September, advised consumers to immediately stop using the ovens. Sunbeam Products Inc., the company behind the Oster brand, has been offering a free repair kit . This kit includes a simple clip-on device that helps keep the doors securely open so that people don’t accidentally get burned while checking food or removing trays.

Several models are part of this recall: TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDGDS, TSSTTVFDXLPP-033, TSSTTVFDDAF-033 , and now the newly added TSSTTVFDDG-033 . All of these models share the same French-door design, but they differ in features like air-frying capability and whether they use analog knobs or digital controls.
In the U.S., the scale of the issue has been significant. Nearly 100 complaints have been reported about the doors snapping shut, and at least two cases of second-degree burns have been confirmed. Fortunately, as of now, no injury reports have been filed in Canada. Still, with more than 170,000 units sold in Canada and more than 1.29 million in the U.S. between 2015 and 2025, this recall is being taken very seriously.
Oster has said that the injuries reported are similar to typical kitchen mishaps, but the company is still urging owners to use the repair kit or stop using the ovens altogether until the fix is installed. In the U.S., the ovens were sold through major retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco, and Walmart, as well as online through Amazon and Overstock, usually priced between $140 and $250.
If anyone wants to report a product safety issue or check for other recalls, Health Canada offers easy online forms for incident reporting. It’s a good reminder to stay aware of recall notices—especially for appliances we use every day—because even a small design flaw can turn into a safety hazard over time.
This recall is ongoing, and owners of the listed models are encouraged to act quickly to avoid potential injuries and to ensure their ovens are properly repaired.
