NewJeans’ Comeback Hits a Major Roadblock After Danielle’s Contract Termination
Right now, the future of NewJeans as a full five-member group is looking increasingly uncertain, and the reason centers on a dramatic development involving member Danielle. What was supposed to be a path toward a complete group comeback has been thrown off course after Ador officially announced the termination of Danielle’s exclusive contract, a move that has sent shockwaves through the K-pop community and the group’s devoted fan base.
This situation follows a court ruling on Oct. 30, when the Seoul Central District Court decided that all five NewJeans members were required to honor their exclusive contracts with Ador through 2029. After that decision, discussions were held between the company and the members, along with their families, in an effort to stabilize the group and move forward. According to Ador, multiple conversations took place with Minji, Hanni, and Danielle, all of whom had earlier expressed a willingness to return to the agency.

Progress was clearly made with Hanni. It was revealed that she, along with her family, traveled to Korea and engaged in direct talks with Ador. Through what the company described as sincere dialogue, she ultimately chose to remain with the label, respecting the court’s ruling. This decision was presented as a key step toward rebuilding the group’s activities. Minji’s situation, however, remains unresolved. While discussions are said to be ongoing, no final decision from her side has been confirmed yet.
The biggest turning point came with Danielle. Ador stated that it was determined to be too difficult to continue working with her as both a NewJeans member and an Ador artist. As a result, she was formally notified of the termination of her contract. This decision effectively removes her from the group, at least under the current structure, and makes a full-member return highly unlikely for the foreseeable future.
Adding another layer to the conflict, Ador announced plans to pursue legal action against Danielle’s family and former Ador CEO Min Hee-jin. The company claims their actions played a role in escalating the dispute, delaying group activities, and encouraging attempts to leave the agency. It was also stated that the members had been exposed to what Ador described as distorted and biased information, leading to misunderstandings that fueled the conflict.
Ador emphasized that rebuilding trust with fans and the public will take time and transparency. Discussions are reportedly ongoing about when and how various controversies will be addressed publicly. For now, three members are expected to resume activities, but with Danielle removed and Minji’s status undecided, NewJeans’ original five-member identity faces a major shift. Given how central that lineup has been to the group’s brand and story, this moment marks a significant and emotional turning point for both NewJeans and their fans.
