Russell Brand Faces Fresh Rape and Sexual Assault Charges as Legal Case Widens
Right now, a serious and developing legal story is unfolding around British actor and comedian Russell Brand. New criminal charges have been brought against him in the United Kingdom, adding to an already extensive list of allegations that have placed him at the centre of a long-running investigation into historical sexual offences.
On Tuesday, London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed that Russell Brand, who is now 50, has been formally charged with two additional offences: one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. These latest allegations involve two women and are separate from the charges he was already facing earlier this year. It has been stated that these new charges will be heard in court in January.

Back in April, Brand was charged with five serious offences linked to four other women. Those included two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. When he appeared at Southwark Crown Court in May, he pleaded not guilty to all of those original charges. A trial related to those earlier allegations has already been scheduled to begin in June next year.
The investigation into Brand began after reports emerged in British media, including a joint investigation by Channel 4 and a major newspaper, which aired allegations from multiple women. These women described incidents dating back between 1999 and 2005, with alleged offences said to have taken place in both London and the seaside town of Bournemouth. Police have made it clear that the investigation remains ongoing and that further information from the public is still being sought.
Following the announcement of the new charges, Brand posted a public response on social media. In that message, he spoke about feeling “blessed” to have the opportunity to address the accusations in court. He referred to mistakes made earlier in his life and expressed a desire for healing for anyone he may have hurt. However, he has continued to strongly deny any claims of non-consensual sexual activity, repeating his long-held position that while he struggled with addiction in the past, rape was never something he committed.
Russell Brand was once one of the UK’s most recognisable entertainment figures, hosting major television and radio shows and starring in Hollywood films. He was also famously married to pop star Katy Perry. In recent years, though, he has largely stepped away from mainstream media and built a large online following focused on wellness, religion, and alternative viewpoints.
As it stands, Brand is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20 to answer the new charges, while the wider case against him continues to move slowly through the British legal system.
