Stargate SG-1 Reopens the Gate on Netflix After a Three-Year Absence

If you’re a science fiction fan, this is one of those announcements that feels like the Stargate itself has just powered back on. After being gone for three long years, Stargate SG-1 is officially returning to Netflix, and it’s coming back in a big way. All ten seasons, covering more than 200 episodes, are set to arrive on the platform starting February 15, 2026, bringing one of television’s most beloved sci-fi franchises back into easy reach for binge-watchers.

The series was last available on Netflix in late 2022, when it quietly disappeared after a licensing deal expired. At the time, it was widely assumed the show was gone for good, especially after Amazon acquired MGM and began pulling major titles toward Prime Video. But now, a new deal has been struck, and the result is a full-scale return of Stargate SG-1 for Netflix subscribers in the United States and select international regions, including the UK and parts of Latin America.

For anyone new to the show, Stargate SG-1 continues the story introduced in the 1994 film. It follows Colonel Jack O’Neill and his team as they travel across the galaxy using an ancient alien portal known as the Stargate. Each mission takes them to new worlds inspired by mythology, history, and classic science fiction ideas, all while Earth is quietly defended from powerful alien threats. Over time, the series became known not just for its action and world-building, but also for its humor, character growth, and long-running story arcs that rewarded loyal viewers.

The return of SG-1 is being treated as a major win for Netflix’s upcoming lineup, especially for fans who enjoy long, rewatchable series. It’s often mentioned in the same breath as Star Trek and Doctor Who when talking about genre-defining television, and its ability to balance episodic adventures with deeper mythology has helped it age remarkably well.

It’s worth noting that, for now, this deal only includes the main Stargate SG-1 series. Spin-offs like Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe are still exclusive to Prime Video in most regions. However, if SG-1 performs well after its return, it wouldn’t be surprising if more of the Stargate universe eventually follows.

Adding to the excitement, a brand-new Stargate series is already in development at Prime Video, led by longtime franchise veteran Martin Gero. That makes this Netflix return feel less like a nostalgic rerun and more like the beginning of a renewed era for the franchise. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, February can’t come soon enough—the gate is officially reopening.
