Sweet Deals and Free Treats for National Cookie Day 2025

National Cookie Day 2025 has arrived, and it’s being celebrated in a big way this Thursday, December 4. It’s pretty fun to see how this holiday actually came to be. It all started back in 1976 when “Sesame Street” added National Cookie Day to its own calendar, marking November 26 as the unofficial holiday. Even Cookie Monster helped promote it years later in the 1980 “Sesame Street Dictionary.” But the date we know today – December 4 – was introduced in 1987 by Blue Chip Cookie Company co-founder Matt Nader, who figured the holiday season was when people were more likely to indulge in fresh-baked treats. Clearly, that decision stuck, because the day is now widely recognized and even celebrated by Cookie Monster himself on TV and across social media.

Now, National Cookie Day has basically turned into a mini food festival, with bakeries, restaurants, and even drink shops offering deals, discounts, and giveaways that Cookie Monster would definitely approve of. So, here’s what’s happening this year.

Dairy Queen is offering a sweet deal through December 7. On December 4 specifically, anyone who buys a Signature Stackburger Combo or a 6-piece Chicken Strip Basket can grab a free mini Frosted Sugar Cookie Blizzard—or any mini Blizzard. Rewards members can also get $3 off any small Blizzard through the same period.

7-Eleven is getting involved too. If you’re part of the 7Rewards or Speedy Rewards programs, you can try their Vanilla Cookie Butter Cold Brew Latte, and when you buy that drink—or any hot coffee until January 6—you can also add a breakfast sandwich for just $2.

Corner Bakery is keeping things simple but tempting: cookies for $1 on National Cookie Day, as long as supplies last. Crumbl is leaning into the “6-7” slang trend by giving customers who purchase a 6-pack in-store a free seventh cookie. Dirty Dough is taking a more dramatic approach, offering chances to win free cookies for a year or even for life if customers use their rewards account during a qualifying purchase.

Several big chains are joining the celebration too. Dunkin’ is giving 3X rewards points on espresso drinks. Great American Cookies is offering a free classic chocolate chip or sugar cookie to rewards members. Insomnia Cookies is handing out free Snowball Classics to the first 100 rewards members at each location and tucking a “free cookies for a year” prize inside one cookie per store.

Even specialty shops are joining in. Harry Potter Shops in New York and Chicago are giving free sweater cookies to their first 100 visitors. Milk Bar is gifting eggnog toffee cookies to early customers. Panera, My Better Batch, Nestlé Toll House, Pepperidge Farm, and others are handing out buy-one-get-one deals, free kits, cookie grams, and online exclusives.

So, whether you’re a casual snacker or someone who treats National Cookie Day like a personal festival, this year is packed with freebies worth grabbing. It’s the perfect excuse to indulge—no judgment, Cookie Monster would agree.
