Timothée Chalamet has always been known for slipping seamlessly into very different characters, sometimes back to back, and making it look effortless. But recently, the actor offered a rare and honest glimpse into what that kind of transformation actually demands, especially when it means letting go of something deeply personal. While promoting his latest film, Marty Supreme, Chalamet opened up about the dramatic buzz cut that surprised fans and marked a clear break from his signature curls.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show on December 12, the 29-year-old actor shared how the change came about while preparing for the third installment of the Dune franchise. It was explained that the haircut wasn’t an instant decision but a gradual process. What began as a short trim soon turned into something far more extreme. When director Denis Villeneuve eventually suggested a one-millimeter cut, Chalamet admitted he wasn’t ready for it. In fact, he said he begged to keep his hair longer, joking that his curls had been “stolen.”

Chalamet reflected on how attached people become to their hair, describing it almost as an extension of personality. Those strands, as he put it, feel like part of who you are. Still, the change was made because the story required it. To portray an older, more hardened version of Paul Atreides, the transformation had to be embraced. It was acknowledged that this is part of the commitment that comes with returning to a role of such scale.

Interestingly, the buzz cut didn’t disappear once filming wrapped. Chalamet kept the look during the press tour for Marty Supreme, signaling that he may have grown fond of it after all. The haircut became part of a whole new era, especially when paired with his bold fashion choices. At the Los Angeles premiere of Marty Supreme on December 8, he turned heads in a striking all-orange leather outfit, perfectly coordinated with girlfriend Kylie Jenner, who matched his look in a vibrant orange gown.

Beyond appearances, Chalamet also spoke with pride about his work in Marty Supreme, where he plays Marty Mauser, a Jewish American table tennis player. He described the performance as possibly the best of his career so far, saying that years of intense, committed work have led him to this moment. The film is set to hit theaters on December 25, while Dune: Part Three is scheduled for release in December 2026.

Through it all, Chalamet’s story highlighted a simple truth about acting: transformation isn’t just about costumes or accents. Sometimes, it starts with a pair of clippers, a reluctant goodbye, and the willingness to become someone entirely new.
