Werder Bremen Faces Injury Woes Ahead of Stuttgart Clash

Ahead of Werder Bremen's crucial Bundesliga home match against VfB Stuttgart, the team is facing a challenging lineup situation. Victor Boniface, one of their key strikers, is confirmed to miss the game due to a knee contusion sustained during training earlier in the week. The 24-year-old Nigerian forward had already been absent from the Friday morning session, and his condition was later revealed to be more severe than initially expected. Boniface was involved in a knee-on-knee collision during a training drill, which caused considerable pain, and despite efforts to alleviate the issue, recovery has been slower than anticipated. Whether Boniface will be available for the final match of the year against FC Augsburg on December 20 remains uncertain, as confirmed by head coach Horst Steffen.

Boniface is not the only key player unavailable for this fixture. Long-term absentees Felix Agu, who is recovering from a syndesmosis ligament injury, and Mitchell Weiser, who is still rehabbing from a torn ACL, will also miss out. In addition, Maximilian Wöber, who had made a return to training after recovering from a thigh injury, will not be part of the squad, as he missed the session for personal reasons.

On a slightly more positive note, midfielder Jens Stage, who was absent from training on Friday due to load management, is expected to be fit and available for selection. Stage has been a crucial player for Werder this season, scoring five goals and becoming one of the team's most important attacking threats.

With this injury-stricken lineup, Werder Bremen will have to make adjustments as they prepare for Stuttgart. The team has struggled at times this season, sitting in a mid-table position and far from both the relegation zone and the European spots. Still, there’s hope among the fans that the squad can rise to the occasion and secure a crucial victory in their final home match of 2025. Despite recent frustrations, including a derby loss, there is optimism for a strong performance against Stuttgart.

The upcoming match promises to be a difficult challenge, especially without the influential Boniface. However, with Steffen’s leadership and some fresh faces likely stepping into the starting lineup, Werder will aim to close out the year on a high note and push forward into 2026 with renewed confidence.
