Young PQA Performers Light Up the West End Stage
So let me tell you about this really heart-warming moment that took place recently, because it’s one of those stories that just makes you smile. A group of young performers from the Pauline Quirke Academy in Manningtree were given the kind of opportunity most kids only dream about. They stepped onto the stage at the West Cliff Theatre in Clacton and performed in the West End Christmas Live show, right alongside actual West End professionals.

Now, imagine being between six and eighteen years old and suddenly finding yourself sharing the spotlight with performers who’ve been part of huge productions like Mamma Mia! , Miss Saigon , Les Misérables , and Wicked . For many of these students, it was a massive milestone, and you could really sense how meaningful it was for them. Their principal, Gemma Naylor, summed it up perfectly when she said this experience allowed the students to feel the “magic of a professional stage” while learning from some of the very best in the business. And honestly, you can tell this is the kind of moment that sticks with you forever.
The audience was treated to an energetic and colourful showcase, packed with some of the most iconic musical hits from the West End. These young performers didn’t just sing; they delivered strong vocals, polished choreography, and a level of enthusiasm that just filled the entire venue. And because it was a festive show, they added a sprinkle of holiday cheer with a handful of Christmas numbers that really kicked off the season in style.
What makes this whole event even more special is what it represents for the academy. PQA has always focused on giving young people real-world experiences in the performing arts. This performance was another example of that mission in action—helping students build confidence, develop their talent, and express their creativity in a professional environment that inspires them to push a little further.
