Zoo Miami Closed After Bomb Threat Triggers Evacuation and Safety Sweep
Earlier today, a normally lively morning at Zoo Miami was suddenly brought to a halt after a bomb threat prompted authorities to shut down the popular attraction and evacuate everyone inside. What began as an ordinary day for visitors and staff quickly turned into a serious safety response, as Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies rushed to the scene to investigate the reported threat.
According to officials, deputies arrived at Zoo Miami, located in southwest Miami-Dade County, shortly after the threat was received on Tuesday morning. As a precautionary measure, all patrons and employees were asked to leave the grounds immediately. The evacuation was carried out calmly, but the presence of law enforcement and fire rescue units made it clear that the situation was being taken seriously.

It was later shared by the Sheriff’s Office that the threat was believed to be a hoax. Still, out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to conduct a full sweep of the zoo. Bomb squad teams, along with K-9 units trained to detect explosives, were deployed to carefully search the massive property. Given the size of Zoo Miami and the number of buildings and outdoor areas involved, the process was expected to take some time.
Zoo Miami officials also addressed the situation publicly, explaining that while there was no immediate danger to the public, safety remained the top priority. Staff members were evacuated, and the zoo announced a delayed opening until authorities could confirm that the area was completely secure. Visitors were asked to remain patient and wait for official updates before attempting to return.

Despite the alarming nature of the initial report, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported and no suspicious items were found during the early stages of the investigation.
