Bills Break the Curse in Jacksonville With Grit, Guts, and a Late Pick
Good evening. What we witnessed in Jacksonville was more than a playoff win. It was a moment years in the making for the Buffalo Bills.
On a warm Sunday afternoon in Florida, Buffalo walked into a building where doubts followed them. This team had never won a road playoff game in more than three decades. Their quarterback was banged up. Their run game, usually their safety net, was facing one of the league’s toughest defenses. And their group of wide receivers raised plenty of eyebrows across the league.
But when the pressure rose, the veterans showed up.
The Bills edged the Jaguars 27 to 24 in a tense AFC Wild Card matchup and they did it by changing their identity on the fly. Early on, nothing came easy. Buffalo’s ground game went nowhere and Jacksonville made it clear they were ready for it. So the Bills adjusted and the game landed squarely on Josh Allen’s shoulders.

Playing through pain, he stayed calm in the pocket and made smart, efficient throws. No panic. No mistakes. He spread the ball around, leaned on Khalil Shakir and hit a few timely shots that kept the chains moving. When Buffalo needed toughness, Allen ran it himself, twice scoring on the ground and absorbing heavy contact along the way.
The game turned into a back-and-forth battle late in the fourth quarter. Lead changes. Big plays. A playoff atmosphere that felt tight right down to the final snap. With under four minutes left, Allen led a composed drive from deep in his own territory, capped by a short touchdown run that put Buffalo ahead with just over a minute remaining.
But it wasn’t over.
Jacksonville still had time and with a kicker capable of historic range, they didn’t need much yardage. Trevor Lawrence pushed his team forward, trying to steal it at the end. Then came the defining play.
A pass over the middle. A deflection. And a veteran presence in the right place at the right time.
Tre’Davious White, a player who has fought through devastating injuries and uncertain seasons, tipped the ball into the arms of a teammate for the game-sealing interception. Season alive. Season extended.
For Buffalo, this win means more than advancing to the divisional round. It means shedding a painful label. It means proving they can adapt, respond and win when Plan A disappears. And it means their core leaders, from Allen to White, can still rise when everything is on the line.
The Bills move on, battle-tested and believing. And for the first time in a long time, a road playoff win no longer hangs over them.
