Instead, she’s imagining herself behind the camera. In a recent conversation, Stewart openly shared that she would love the chance to direct a reboot of the iconic Twilight franchise, the very series that defined her early career and shaped a generation of pop culture fandom.
Stewart, who starred as Bella Swan in all four Twilight films, said the idea of re-adapting Stephenie Meyer’s romance-fantasy saga feels creatively tempting. The possibility was framed with one major condition: a huge budget and genuine creative support. With that in place, she made it clear she would be fully committed. She recently made her feature directorial debut with The Chronology of Water, an indie project that received strong critical praise and even earned a lengthy standing ovation at Cannes. The success of that film led to her being named one of Variety’s Directors to Watch in 2026, cementing her shift from actor to serious filmmaker.
At the same time, Stewart has been candid about how overwhelming the past year has been. She got married, starred in a film, and directed her first feature all within a short span. By her own admission, she now feels the need to slow down, recharge, and “fill the well” before diving into another demanding project.
Still, when it comes to Twilight, her resolve seems firm. She has expressed sympathy for the original directors, who she believes faced intense studio pressure while working on a blockbuster franchise. Yet under the right circumstances, with creative freedom and trust, Stewart made her stance clear. If given the chance, she’s ready to bring Twilight back to life — this time, through her own lens.
