X Down: Global Outage Leaves Thousands Locked Out of Twitter
Reports are coming in from around the world that X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is experiencing a significant outage. Thousands of users are finding themselves unable to access the service, with the desktop version appearing to be hit the hardest. The first reports began just before 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time and according to tracking site Downdetector, over 16,000 users have now reported problems.
The majority of issues, around 60 percent, are related to logging in or using X via a web browser. About 17 percent are experiencing trouble with the mobile app and another 14 percent report being unable to get past the login screen. While the official X developer API shows no reported disruptions, user reports tell a very different story, suggesting an infrastructure problem that is impacting access for many.
This is not an isolated event. X has faced repeated outages this year, with at least one reported every month in 2026.
